Police say the girl was riding in the backseat with her mother driving and her 11-year-old brother in the front passenger seat. For unknown reasons, she opened her door and leaned out head first. Her brother and mother attempt to pull her inside, but she fell out of the car going approximately 60mph.
Authorities say the family car stopped, but it was too late. She landed on the freeway in oncoming traffic and an 18-wheeler struck and killed her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. All eastbound lanes of the freeway were completely shut down for several hours, opening up around 3:30am.
Authorities do not suspect foul play at this time. The victim's mother and brother have been questioned and released.
Baytown police also said Tania had a friend that apparently did the same thing in Florida last year.
