Police: Woman shot in face by boyfriend

HOUSTON It happened just before midnight on Laverne at Laverne Park in northwest Houston. Police say the 38-year-old woman went downstairs thinking the boyfriend was going to work when he got a gun and shot her.

The suspect then took off running down the street, screaming, until police arrived. Officers say he fought with them and they had to hog tie him to arrest him.

Authorities say it's still not clear on what set the man off.

Police say the couple's kids, a teenage girl and a 5-year-old girl, were in the home at the time and are now staying with relatives.

The woman is in critical condition at Ben Taub Hospital.

The 32-year-old man is in the process of being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
