The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating the early morning fatal shooting of a teen in the Spring area. It happened around 1am Tuesday. Alberto Cardenas, 15, and two friends drove to a residence in the 23600 block of Rustic Oak Ct., in the Villages of Spring Oaks subdivision. The homeowner entered the home while Cardenas and a friend waited in the car.

As the homeowner returned to his car, he was confronted by five males ranging in age from 14 to 18 years old. Investigators say the older suspect threatened the homeowner with a pistol and took his keys. Cardenas and his two friends were ordered into the house at gunpoint and the suspects took several items from inside.

While the suspects were distracted, the homeowner managed to called 911.

As the suspects were fleeing, one of them fatally shot Cardenas. All of them took off on foot.

Two bicycles, believed to have been ridden to the scene by the suspects, were recovered nearby.

The suspects are only described as five African-American males, the youngest described as being a short heavyset male, approximately 14 years of age. Investigators believe the suspects are responsible for burglarizing at least three vehicles on Rustic Oak Ct., prior to the shooting.
