Babysitter accused of sex with preschooler

HOUSTON Amber Teshae Bowie was just 19 years old when the boy she was babysitting says she sexually assaulted him. Bowie's mother told Eyewitness News she can't believe the charges.

Bowie's mother Henrietta Garner said, "She didn't do nothing. How could this be going so far, what?"

A court document reveals that Bowie is accused of taking the then three-year-old boy into the bathroom of his grandmother's house on June 22 of 2009, undressing and then sexually assaulting him. The chief of the crimes against children division at the Harris County District Attorney's office says Bowie was charged as soon as the child made an outcry.

"One of the things that we see with children sometimes is the outcry might be delayed," explained Assistant District Attorney Denise Oncken.

Bowie's aunt says the allegations are not true.

Tina said, "They're bogus charges."

If she's convicted, Bowie could spend 25 years to life in prison. But Bowie's mother says her family will wait for the justice system to decide.

"I have to have faith in it, because if she didn't do anything, there's no way she can be convicted," Garner said.

Bowie is charged with super aggravated sexual assault of a child because the child was under six years old. Bowie is out of jail on $30,000 bond.
