Sugar Land has a deal to bring a minor league baseball team to the area and a location for a new stadium, but the team is still missing one important item - a team name. Now fans have a chance to name Sugar Land's newest addition. The team, scheduled to play its inaugural season in 2012, announced Friday the process that will allow local fans to select the team name.

Fans can visit www.NameSugarLandsTeam.com to submit a favorite name for their hometown team. Fans will also be given an opportunity to offer a reason supporting the name being submitted. The fan submitting the winning name will be awarded a grand prize of lifetime season tickets.

In addition, all fans who submit a name will be entered into a second prize random drawing to win season tickets for the inaugural season.

Names will be through August 20, 2010. After that deadline, the contest will enter "Extra Innings" when the final five to seven team names are announced. During a two week period, fans will then be asked to select their favorite team names among the finalists by ranking their top three choices in order of preference. By mid-September, 2010, the team name and contest winner will be announced.

Fans that do not have online access may send their entry to Sugar Land Minor League Baseball, 16160 City Walk, Sugar Land, Texas 77479. Entrants must include name, address, and phone number. Entries not postmarked between July 16 and August 20 will not be eligible.

All entries become the property of Sugar Land's team. See the team's website www.NameSugarLandsTeam.com for further details.
