Homeless woman sexually assaulted in park

A 61-year-old homeless woman was sexually assaulted in a Conroe park, and her attacker is still on the loose. At about 7am Friday, Conroe police were called to Heritage Place Park in the 500 block of Collins Street. Officers received information that an assault and possible sexual assault had occurred at that location and that the victim was still at the scene.

Officers located a 61-year-old woman near the restroom area of the park. The initial investigation revealed that the victim was homeless and had been sleeping in the park. It is believed that at some time between midnight and 7am, someone physically and sexually assaulted the victim. She received serious injuries and was transported to Hermann Hospital Houston for treatment.

Investigators have interviewed the victim and other homeless persons who frequent the park. Investigators are following leads and the investigation is ongoing.
