Local radio station off air due to copper theft

HOUSTON KPFT, or 90.1 on the FM dial, has been off the air since Sunday. The station's general manager says copper thieves broke into the station's transmission tower in northwest Harris County around midnight Sunday. They cut and stole wiring vital to the station's ability to broadcast.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. The station's GM says the owner of the tower is performing repairs on the tower.

A note on their website says the station is still broadcasting in Galveston on FM 89.5 and available through a live stream at www.kpft.org.

Meanwhile, it will likely be another couple of days before the station is back up and running.
