Suspect arrested in hit-and-run death of woman

HOUSTON Maria Guadalupe Reyes, 33, is charged with failure to stop and render aid. She is accused in the death of Maria Hernandez, 57.

On June 20, police say Hernandez was sweeping her driveway in the 400 block of Crosstimbers and standing in the street's bike lane when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Witnesses initially reported the vehicle was a gray, early 1990's Honda or Nissan passenger car driven by a white or Hispanic man in his 50s.

Investigators learned the identity of the suspect as Reyes and arrested her without incident on Saturday. Reyes provided a statement admitting to her role as the driver who struck Hernandez.
