Major fire burns apartment units in NW Houston

HOUSTON Investigators say on Friday afternoon, a car hit a gas line, then the building containing a laundry room. That sparked the fire off West Gulf Bank near Streamside.

Neighbors say the moments right after the crash were chaotic.

Thick black smoke filled the sky, and smoke could be seen pouring from the roof of the apartment building. The car was completely destroyed and a portion of the wall of the building is gone as well.

"It was horrible. We started seeing people running out of the apartments grabbing their kids and stuff," witness Cindy Rivera said,

Investigators haven't officially said what caused the driver to slam into the building. People at the complex say the driver told them he had a brake problem.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
