An early morning fire turned deadly in northeast Harris County today. It happened around 6:15am at a home on Elderberry near Purple Sage. Travis Henk, 54, lived in the home with his wife and family. All other family members were able to escape without injury. Sheldon Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, keeping damage confined to the single-family residence.

"The fire was accidental in nature and caused by a fan in the living room," said Investigator Chad Shaw with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office. "A grandchild alerted the grandmother to the fire. She ushered all other occupants to safety but was unable to rouse her husband from his bed."

Two adults and four young children ranging in age from nine to three were all able to make it out safely.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine the exact cause of death.
