The Juneteenth celebration in Galveston continues through the weekend. Tomorrow's festivities begin with the Emancipation Proclamation reading and prayer breakfast at Ashton Villa. A Jubilee Parade and picnic will follow at Wright Cuney Park.

June 19th, 1865 commemorates the date when 145 years ago, General Gordon Granger of the Union Army read the Emancipation Proclamation that freed an estimated 250,000 slaves living in Texas.

If you'd like to take part in the festivities on Galveston Island, here's a link to events happening there.
