Fire forces closure of IRS office in SW Houston

An Internal Revenue Service office in southwest Houston is closed Friday after an early morning fire. The fire started in the mechanical room on the roof of the 12-story building on South Gessner. Firefighters had to pull a second alarm, but they were able to put out the fire pretty quickly. The smoke did cause some problems with the elevators.

Firefighters believe some sort of construction was being done on the roof beforehand, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
