Families look for new home after fire burns down apartments
HOUSTON
Emergency crews were called to a two-alarm fire at Northborough and Meadow Fern in north Houston just after midnight. When they arrived, heavy smoke and flames already filled the air and the fire had spread through the attic. The building housing 11 units burned to the ground.
Before firefighters got there, all the residents managed to get out of the building safely.
"We come in here thinking we was gonna have to search, but actually the security guard had already taken care of evacuating the building," said Roy Hamm, Deputy Chief of Houston Fire Department.
The Red Cross is helping the people who lived there.
Investigators are checking to see if someone may have started the fire on purpose.
