Two Texas City schools cleared after brief lockdown

Two schools in Texas City were cleared of a brief lockdown Thursday afternoon after an inmate escaped from the Texas City jail, a Texas City ISD said. The lockdown was cleared at Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary and Blocker Middle Schools around 3:40pm. Dismissal times are normally 3:15pm and 2:55pm, respectively.

TCISD said the lockdown was a precautionary measure and a standard safety procedure because the inmate was apparently headed in an eastern direction towards the area of the schools.

The students and staff were secure in the buildings and were not allowed to leave.

An email Thursday afternoon was sent to parents of students.

The district said parents can now arrange for the pickup of their student(s).
