An official says a Border Patrol agent has died and another is in critical condition after their vehicle hit cattle and crashed in rural south Texas. Border Patrol Supervisory Agent Rosie Huey said Monday the agents veered off Farm-to-Market 755 just south of Encino around 11:30 p.m. Sunday after striking the cattle. Their vehicle hit a tree.

Huey says the driver was declared dead on the scene and the other agent was flown to a Corpus Christi hospital.

The names of the agents haven't been released pending notification of family.

Encino is about 180 miles south of San Antonio.
