Man visiting Houston from Africa fatally struck by car

HOUSTON Officials say a man was killed as he ran across the street near Westheimer and Rivercrest about 9pm Wednesday. The man and a friend who was with him just arrived here on a plane from Africa.

Police say the 26-year-old victim and his friend got off a METRO bus and attempted to cross the street. The victim was then struck by a car and died at the scene. His friend was not injured.

The female driver of the car was questioned and released at the scene. She told police the man was standing in the median and she didn't see him. She will not be charged for the accident.

Further investigation determined the victim was not crossing Westheimer at a crosswalk.
