KATY, TX --
It's opening day for a new farmer's market in Katy. If you like fresh, organic produce grown by farmers from around the greater Houston area, you'll find it at the Katy Fresh Produce Market on East Third Street near Katy Fort Bend Road. The market has goods from farms in Alvin, Rosenberg, Hempstead, Waller and Fairfield. Farmers say this could be a big draw for old town Katy.
Brookshire farmer Bob Stout explained, "I think you'll have people come to Katy who won't come otherwise for the market and some stores around there."
The owners of Katy Fresh Produce Market say one grocery store chain has expressed concern about losing customers because of this new endeavor.
