Jaworski elected Galveston mayor; stadium defeated

GALVESTON, TX Joe Jaworski landed more votes than his four challengers combined. Jaworski received more than 3,800 votes, which adds to up to more than 52 percent of the total votes cast. Jaworski will replace outgoing Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas, who will leave office due to term limits.

Voters also rejected a bond proposal to build a new stadium for Galveston ISD. The $35 million bond would have funded an 8,000 seat multi-purposed stadium complex.

Sixty-seven percent of voters cast ballots against the proposition.
