Big vote for Galveston residents this weekend

A big election will be held in Galveston this weekend. Five candidates are vying to replace Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas, who has reached her term limit. The list of candidates includes current Councilmember Danny Weber, community volunteer Betty Massey, former Councilmember Joe Jaworski, Bill Quiroga, the brother of a former Galveston mayor and Greg Roof, a Galveston college regent.

The stadium vote is another big issue on the Galveston ballot. Galveston residents will vote for or against the $35 million bond to build a stadium. Under the proposal for the stadium, it would be used for many events including football and soccer, and would seat 8,000 people.

We'll bring you the results of the mayor and the stadium votes during our newscasts and online here at abc13.com.
