Woman killed in shootout in southeast Houston

HOUSTON Police say it all started from a fight between the woman and her boyfriend. The shootout happened off Bremond and Tierwester around 5pm Sunday.

According to officers, the woman, 43, and her brother, Richard Gregory Harrison, 47, pulled up to where her boyfriend Oscar Leonard Harris, 56, was drinking beer with friends. Harrison and his sister got out of their truck and both opened fire on Harris, who was struck one time before he got into his vehicle and retrieved a pistol, police say.

Officer say Harris returned fire and killed the woman. Harrison and Harris continued to exchange gunfire until police arrived. Harris was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was treated. Harrison was not injured.

Investigators learned the woman and Harris had filed assault reports against one another, one regarding an incident on Friday in which the woman claimed Harris struck her in the face with a beer bottle. The other incident, Harris said, happened about 7:30pm Saturday when she fired shots into his car.

Harrison faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The identity of the woman is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The investigation is continuing.
