Dog that mauled Galveston County girl euthanized

The Rhodesian Ridgeback attacked the girl at a neighbor's house in San Leon. The girl's ear was partially severed, and she suffered several bites to her left site. She was taken to Texas Children's Hospital, where her ear was re-attached.

The owners of the 90-pound dog turned the pet over to Galveston County Animal Control, where officials drew samples to submit to a state lab for rabies testing and euthanized it.

This wasn't the first time the dog had mauled a child, Galveston County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ray Tuttoilmundo said. The dog had bitten the owner's child once before, but he did not disclose the severity of the attack.

The girl attacked Saturday is expected to recover, he said.
