Police: Man fatally shot in road rage incident

MISSOURI CITY, TX Shortly before 2am Sunday, Missouri City officers responded to a shooting call in the 4100 block of Starboard Shores. At the same time, they say the communications center was receiving a second report of a shooting in which the suspect called 911 and stated he had just shot a man who had come up to his vehicle and started punching him.

Police told the caller to stop his vehicle so officers could locate him and he complied. Officers located the suspect in the 4100 block of Eastshore Drive, where Vanson Nguyen, 29, was detained.

As officers arrived in the 4100 block of Starboard Shores they located a man lying in the street, bleeding profusely. The subject in the street, identified as Roberto Jaimungal, 31, died of an apparent gunshot wound to the neck as he lay in the street in front of his home.

Jaimungal's fiance was in the car with him while they were driving, but she went inside the house once they arrived home, and didn't witness the shooting.

Police say their preliminary investigation reveals that Jaimungal, and Nguyen became involved in some type of traffic incident moments earlier and the end result of the altercation was the shooting. According to Captain Bailey with the Missouri City Police Department, both men had been driving aggressively.

Capt. Bailey says it appears that Jaimungal went to his home on Starboard Shores and that Nguyen went past the house and turned around, and pulled up to the driveway. Jaimungal then apparently walked over to confront Nguyen and Ngyuen shot and killed Jaimungal, according to Capt. Bailey.

Nguyen was taken into custody, booked into the city jail and charged with murder. Bond has been set at $80,000.

The case remains under investigation.
