Building fire in SW Houston appears to be suspicious

Firefighters say a fire that sparked early Thursday morning at an office building in southwest Houston is suspicious. Firefighters went into the Westbury Professional building off South Willow near Gasmer around 2am and found a fire on the second floor. They were able to knock out the flames within minutes.

Firefighters say the fire started in a hallway which is unusual. Arson detectives are investigating.

The office building actually housed a Houston Police Department storefront. Despite neither the storefront nor the equipment inside being harmed, police say extensive damage to the building caused the operations to be moved to the Hiram Clarke Storefront at 4363 West Fuqua.

Until further notice, southwest Houston residents needing non-emergency assistance are encouraged to go to the Hiram Clarke location or call 713-433-2720.
