Body of 8-foot alligator beheaded near Inez

INEZ, TX The Victoria Advocate reports Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were dispatched to a road near Inez after a driver called saying she hit an alligator Sunday night and killed it. The alligator was struck about a mile from the nearest creek.

DPS did not immediately return messages Friday to The Associated Press for further details.

The newspaper reported the dead alligator by the side of the road still had its head Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday the body was belly-up and the head was gone.

Nearby resident Joyce Warzecha says she's seen "more sightseers than actual people that travel this road" because word of mouth got out about the alligator kill.
