Deputy on motorcycle struck by car

HOUSTON Shortly after noon, an off-duty Precinct 6 deputy constable on a motorcycle was doing a funeral escort along Mykawa near Airport when he was struck by a vehicle, according to Precinct 6 officials. The deputy is in good condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Precinct 6 Cpl. Jarrell Caldwell said that as the funeral procession moved down Mykawa Street, a vehicle cut through the funeral procession, failing to yield to emergency vehicles. The deputy struck the vehicle as he followed the procession. He was able to stay on his motorcycle, which slid a few feet before stopping.

At this time he has a few cuts and bruises and was transported to the hospital as a precaution. The Houston Police Department is conducting the investigation on this case. Traffic-related charges may be filed.

The deputy's name is being withheld at this time.
