Mother dies saving her 2 kids in El Paso wreck

EL PASO, TX Police spokesman Darrel Petry on Thursday credited the woman's heroic actions and those of two people who stopped to help for saving the 8-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy.

Petry says 25-year-old Karla Cerino of El Paso was driving on Interstate 10 on Wednesday when the left front tire blew. The SUV ended up on its side. Cerino's leg was pinned under the vehicle.

Petry says Cerino got her children out before the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Priscilla Chavez has third-degree burns over 25 percent of her body and was in critical condition Thursday at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

Petry says Edgar Chavez suffered facial injuries and was stable.
