Movie ticket prices go up in Houston area

HOUSTON Overnight, the three big movie theater chains raised their prices. On average, you'll pay about $1.50 more per ticket.

Theaters owned by Regal Entertainment, AMC Entertainment, and Cinemark holdings also raised prices on 3D movie tickets by about 15 percent. In Houston, a 3D movie will now cost you about $13- a ticket. A regular movie ticket will cost about $9 in our area.

Movie executives say, in part, it costs more to make movies, and the price is being passed along to the customer. They also claim going to the movies is still a bargain because tickets to a Broadway show or an entertainment park will cost you well over $30 each.
