Fort Bend ISD may change school start times

HOUSTON The district is facing a $20 million deficit next school year, and says it can trim $2 million in transportation costs by pushing the school day back to improve bus route efficiency.

Elementary schools would start ten minutes later and middle schools five minutes later. High schools would not be affected. The district is also considering increasing bus loads and making fewer bus stops.

Fort Bend ISD is also considering cutting jobs to save money. The district says if it doesn't change its current spending habits, the district could be financially unstable within three years. The cost-cutting measures will be voted on before June.
