Suspect arrested after SWAT standoff

PEARLAND, TX Shortly before noon a witness called Pearland police after seeing a suspect who appeared to be armed break a window on a trailer home in the 1900 block of Garden Road. When officers arrived, one suspect was apprehended at the door, but they weren't sure if a second suspect remained in the trailer.

Police say initial efforts to determine if a suspect was still inside or locate a weapon were unsuccessful. The Combined Agency Response Team consisting of SWAT officers from adjoining jurisdictions was mobilized as a precaution, in the event a second suspect was inside the home.

Around 3pm, a gas canister was placed in the home. Just prior to officers making their entry, the second suspect revealed himself and was taken into custody without incident. That suspect suffered minor facial irritation from the gas but was otherwise uninjured.

Pearland ISD spokesperson Renae Ivy says students from Carleston Elementary who live at the Raintree Acres mobile home park were taken to Lawhan Elementary for their parents to pick them up.

Garden Road between the Brookside City Limits and Butler Road was closed to traffic during the police operation.

The names of the suspects have not been released.
