A police chase that started near downtown Houston Monday evening startled drivers during rush hour as they noticed cruisers speeding after a pickup truck. Police say they saw a man leaving a known drug house and tried to pull him over, but he took off. They followed him until he finally stopped at a shopping center on the Eastex Freeway at Little York.

"It wasn't really a fast chase. He was going maybe about 40 to 50 miles an hour. I feel like they (police) did everything they could just to make it a safe environment for the people that were on the highway," said witness Shamika Ferguson.

Eyewitnesses say they noticed the driver throwing things out of his pickup on the freeway. Officers say the man admitted buying drugs at the house and that he threw them out.
