Two teens shot near Whataburger

HOUSTON Shortly before 3pm Wednesday, police say Robert Pinto, 18, opened fire on a vehicle not far from a Whataburger restaurant on Kuykendahl near FM 2920. According to Precinct 4 constables, Pinto shot his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend.

The female is a 16-year-old student at Klein Oak High School and the male victim is 18 years old and used to attend the high school. They both know Pinto because he's an 18-year-old former Klein Oak High student and her ex-boyfriend.

Investigators say Pinto and a carload of males followed his ex and her boyfriend from the high school, and even hit them with their car before they opened fire while driving.

The victims pulled into the parking lot of a Whataburger to seek help. The girl was shot in the neck and the male victim was shot in the mouth. They were both transported to nearby hospitals.

There was no indication a fight at the school led to the shooting.

"There's some Klein Oak students involved and some ex-Klein Oak students involved. They've all gone to that school at one point, but we're not getting information that it's related to the school. It's just something personal between the complainant and suspect," said Mario Quintanilla of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division.

After the shooting, the suspects sped off. Deputies caught up with them and took Pinto and three other people in the car into custody about four miles away from the restaurant.

Police are questioning Pinto and have not yet filed charges. The three other people taken into custody were released and there is no plan to file charges against them.

Both victims are still at the hospital in stable condition and are expected to survive.
