Man arrested in death of Texas City cadet

TEXAS CITY, TX Police arrested the victim's boyfriend, Gifford Johnson, 35, on Friday. The victim, Teresa Marie Wright, 33, was enrolled in the police academy at College of the Mainland in Texas City and was set to graduate in May.

Texas City police said that earlier this month, Wright was strangled to death in her home while her three children were asleep in their beds. It wasn't until 11am the next morning when Wright's 15-year-old daughter discovered her mother's body in the foyer.

There were no signs of forced entry at the time which led police to label Johnson a person of interest. Autopsy results of the body confirmed that Wright's death was a homicide by strangulation.

Police have not released a motive for the killing yet.
