Police say the 49-year-old woman's relatives contacted police around noon Friday, saying they feared the child was in danger. They first went to her luxury apartment complex off of Central Park and then to the hotel.
The boy and woman were found in their room at the Peninsula, a $600-a-night hotel near designer Manhattan boutiques.
Police say the woman was hospitalized in critical condition. A hotel spokeswoman declined comment.
