Texting while driving will now get you a ticket on the island. Galveston's brand new ban on distracted driving starts today. Tickets can range up to $500 for drivers caught viewing, sending or typing any electronic message while behind the wheel. According to statistics, drivers who text and email are 20 times more likely to get into an accident than non-distracted drivers.

Missouri City may be the next Houston area community to ban texting while driving. Missouri City's council will take a final vote February 15. The ban is expected to pass and go into effect June 1.
