Woman attacked while jogging in The Woodlands

HOUSTON It was just before 6am Thursday morning when the 911 call came from a running trail along Gossling Road between Woodlands Parkway and Shadow Bend. Sheriff's deputies say the female jogger was grabbed by a man holding a knife.

The attack happened near a shopping center where many women are being especially aware.

"When we come out, the gentlemen that works with us always walk out with us just so we have protection when we walk out of the store. We don't want to walk out alone anymore," said Kelly Gunn, who works in the shopping center.

So are their male co-workers.

"We've got the lights and everything, but the girls don't feel safe walking out with everything going on. Everyone knows that The Woodlands is a safe place and they still want that security of walking out with some of the male employees and the security guard at the shopping center," said worker Tim Owen.

Business owners like Brian Goudie are thinking about their employees.

"When people do come in and are walking about and not in cars, and look suspicious, then they're usually approached by police," said Goudie.

The victim escaped when the suspect grabbed at her hat and fell backwards. But many around here worry if there is a next time, will the victim be able to get away?

Investigators with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department told us the suspect was wearing running gear when he attacked the woman.Anyone with information is asked to call Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867(STOP).
