Alabama's BCS triumph has earned the Crimson Tide a unanimous No. 1 in the final AP rankings. It's the seventh time Alabama has finished atop the AP poll. Only Notre Dame has more AP national championships, with eight. Oklahoma also has seven. The Tide garnered all 60 first-place votes. Despite their loss in the championship game, the Texas Longhorns finished second. Florida, which lost to Alabama in the SEC championship but routed Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl, finished third. Boise State, which along with Alabama finished 14-0, wound up fourth in the AP rankings. Ohio State, TCU, Iowa, Cincinnati, Penn State and Virginia Tech round out the AP Top 10.

The top six teams also finished in that order in the final USA Today coaches poll. In that poll, Iowa was seventh, followed by Penn State, Cincinnati and Virginia Tech.
