Affordable New Year's Eve fun for the family

HOUSTON Whether you want to dance, skate or eat a big meal, there is something for everyone including fun activities for the whole family.

The Ice at Discovery Green is a great place to take the kids by skating around a 7,200 square foot rink plus a separate toddler-friendly rink. Tonight only the rink is open until 10pm tonight. Admission is $10. Also, while you're there, be sure to catch the movie classic "It's a Wonderful Life." The movie will be shown overlooking the rink and it's free.

The Rainforest Café at Katy Mills is kicking off the New Year with a family-friendly bash from 6 – 8pm tonight. There's a $6.99 kid's buffet, balloon drop, sparkling cider and goodies. Reservations are required.

For the adults, Sam Houston Race Park is celebrating their second annual New Year's Eve party with live racing, entertainment, champagne toast and fireworks display. Gates open at 5:30pm. Tickets start at $19 per person and parking is free.

If you want a chance to win some money and dance the night away, check out "Hush." The night club located off the Katy freeway in west Houston is celebrating 2010 with a masquerade ball and a $5,000 cash drop from a gigantic balloon at midnight. General admission tickets are $20 at the door.

If you don't want to pay a cover charge, drop by Yao Restaurant and Bar located on Westheimer near Gessner. The restaurant is featuring drink and sushi specials from 9pm - 2am and includes complimentary champagne toast plus a chance to win an autographed Yao Ming cap.
