Body of illegal immigrant dumped in NE Houston

HOUSTON Police say the smugglers called the man's family in Guatemala and told them exactly where to find his body in some woods near Wiley and Haywood. A family member in Houston went to the location and called police after finding the young man dead. Over the phone, the coyotes told the family the dead man got sick and died along the way from Guatemala to Florida.

Police say it's highly unusual for coyotes to contact family members for anything other than to demand more money.

"For them to actually contact the family members to say that he's been left here for them to find is highly unusual," said Officer J.L. Coffelt with the Houston Police Department.

There are no signs the man was harmed. The medical examiner will determine his cause of death.
