Woman and baby killed in car wreck

HOUSTON The accident happened in the 2800 block of Tidwell at about 6:30am. According to Houston police, the drivers of a black Chevrolet Impala and a black Ford Mustang were stopped at a red light in the westbound lanes of the intersection of Tidwell and Jensen. The Impala was in the left lane and the Mustang was stopped in the right lane.

A silver Buick LeSabre was also traveling westbound on Tidwell in the right lane when the driver reportedly failed to control his speed, sideswiped the Impala and then struck the back left portion of the Mustang. The Mustang rolled several times and hit a utility pole. The female 22-year-old driver and infant passenger, age about six months, of the Mustang were killed.

The driver of the Impala was taken to St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital listed as stable and the driver of the LeSabre was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.
