Pasadena police are investigating a fatal collision involving a driver who's accused of striking and killing a man in a wheelchair. It was a little after 7:30pm Monday when the man in the wheelchair attempted to cross Preston Road near Pine. That's when Pasadena police say a man driving a pickup ran into the wheelchair. The disabled man was flown by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

The driver told police that a man in a wheelchair darted out in front of him, giving him no time to react.

People we talked to in the neighborhood say they often saw the victim make his way to a nearby store.

"We would see him rolling around on the streets. He goes to the corner store over there," said Enrique Plautas.

Investigators also told us that they found no alcohol in the driver's pickup. Since the man in the wheelchair was not crossing at a designated crossing area, no charges have been filed against the driver.
