Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run accident

HOUSTON The incident started Saturday afternoon as a minor fender-bender at Meyerland Plaza. Detectives say it appears a vehicle driven by George Randell Theobald, 39, hit a woman's truck. Brenda Romano, 56, and her daughter, Robyn Romano, 34, got out of the truck to confront Theobald.

An argument ensued and that's when police say Theobald threw his vehicle in reverse. Brenda Romano was struck and later died from her injuries. Robyn Romano was hit and suffered a broken leg. Theobald then reportedly left the scene.

Investigators say they received several tip calls after they saw the story aired on the news, one of which lead them to a Western Inn Motel in the 15000 block of the North Loop around 4:30am Sunday. They found Theobald in one of the motel rooms. The Houston Police Department also got a tip on where the vehicle was abandoned. They've since recovered it.

Theobald has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators say he confessed to his role in the incident.

Authorities say Theobald has a lengthy criminal background.
