Sheriff: DNA links woman to babies' remains

November 13, 2009 12:33:08 PM PST
Tarrant County Sheriff Dee Anderson says a 36-year-old woman identified through DNA as the mother of three babies whose decomposed remains were found in rural northern Texas under a mobile home porch and nearby has been arrested. Sheriff's spokesman Terry Grisham says that Rachel Lynnette New, arrested Thursday, faces three charges of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Grisham said Friday that New had posted $70,000 bond and was in the process of being released through community supervision. Grisham did not know if she had an attorney. A phone number for New could not be found.

Two sets of the remains were found this summer, while another set was found last year.
