Power outage affects three cities

November 11, 2009 1:21:26 PM PST
A major power outage affected three area cities for about two hours this afternoon.According to Valerie Smith with Texas New Mexico Power, the outage affected most of Alvin, Friendswood and League City. The interruption began shortly after noon and by 2pm, power had been restored.

The cause of the power outage was due to a problem with transmission equipment in Alvin, a Texas New Mexico Power spokesperson told Eyewitness News late Tuesday afternoon. That failure caused TNMP to lose their transmission feed into the Friendswood/Alvin area and west side of League City. Normally that area is feed by two sources, but the other source was out for scheduled maintenance. TNMP is looking into the cause of the equipment failure.
