Freeport closes flood gate for high tides

November 9, 2009 2:25:22 PM PST
Though the Texas Gulf Coast is not in Tropical Storm Ida's path, the city of Freeport was forced to shut their flood gate due to high tides. Forecasters from the National Weather Service say that three to four foot tides made their way ashore Sunday and early this morning. Though fall and spring high tides are fairly common, they are concerned that low lying areas that sustained damage from Hurricane Ike might be more vulnerable than usual.
