Authorities say three people are dead after the single-engine plane they were in crashed en route to Pearland. Officials at the Texas Department of Public Safety in San Antonio told The Associated Press that the plane crashed around 11:36 a.m. Sunday near Spring Branch, located about 30 miles north of San Antonio. The plane had left the Kerrville Municipal Airport.

A DPS operator identified the victims as 60-year-old Carlos McKinney, of Kerrville, 13-year-old Dylan Lord and 12-year-old Brendon Lord.

Trooper Randy Vick's report said the FAA cited aircraft malfunction as the cause of the crash.

Lynn Lunsford, a spokesman for the FAA, said the plane was at about 9,000 feet when controllers lost radar contact.
