Firefighters busy battling different fires

HOUSTON The first happened around 9pm last night at a home on Yupon Ridge at High Star in southwest Houston.

Firefighters say the son of the family was cooking on the stove when something caught fire and spread to the roof. Crews arrived on scene to find flames shooting from the roof but quickly knocked down the flames before they spread to the entire house.

Firefighters say the family got out safely. They are ruling the fire an accident.

There was another fire overnight in the Huffman-New Caney area near Kingwood.

Firefighters say they found a mobile home and two cars on fire. The family who lives there got out safely. Investigators say it appears the fire started in one of the cars, spread to the other, and then spread to the mobile home.
