Basketball returns to St. Thomas

The University of St. Thomas basketball team is back in the win column after 25 years. That's because it's been a quarter-century since the school in the heart of Montrose had a basketball program. [SPORTS BLOG: Read the latest from the Eyewitness Sports team]

Free throws by Patrick Graves and Melvin Roberts in the final 14 seconds erased a one-point deficit and lifted the Celts to a 66-63 win against Wiley College Saturday at the Jerabeck Athletic Center.

It was the 2009 season opener for both teams, a game that was highly anticipated by everyone involved with UST athletics. The Celts erased a 14-point deficit in the second half to start the season with a win.
