Cracking down on aggressive drivers

Members of the Houston Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Division unveiled several new methods officers will use to crack down on aggressive drivers.HPD officials want to educate drivers on all of the dangers of unsafe driving. Authorities say there are numerous fatal accidents that occur daily due to aggressive driving, and officers want to partner with the public to ensure the streets of Houston are safe for everyone.

Police say they plan on using some innovative methods in order to put a stop to aggressive driving. They will have officers going undercover as TxDOT employees in work trucks along the sides of freeways, and officers riding in 18-wheelers looking for unsafe drivers. They even plan on having officers standing on the side of the road.

Houston Police Capt. Carl Driskell explained, "Plainclothes officers standing on street corners holding signs that say 'buckle up' and when they see cars come by that aren't buckled up, they are going to relay that to units."

Officers say they hope by making the public aware of the dangers of unsafe driving there will be fewer fatal accidents.
