Homeowners may have to pay for security

HOUSTON Maplewood had a constable patrolling the area until last November because less than half of the neighbors paid the $195 voluntary fee. But with homeowners concerned about burglaries, the civic club wants to become a homeowners association, which would give it the ability to levy a mandatory fee. That fee would be used to pay for extra security.

The civic club will hold a meeting next month to discuss the plan with neighbors.
