The Astros notified the team icon that he will not return as coach next season. The team has offered Cruz an administrative position. Cruz has not yet accepted that offer.
The 62-year-old is one of the most popular former players in Astros history. He ranks near the top of the club's offensive charts in several categories and had his number 25 retired in 1992.
Also, the Astros start interviewing candidates today to replace fired Manager Cecil Cooper.
